Pulau Pinang Yo! (Part 1)

"Hurry up, Sharon! We are going to Penang!"

"Hurry up Sharon! We're going to Penang!" Mom beamed in glee.

Leaving for Penang? It was an utter surprise which appeared out of nowhere. Or, should I say, it was a hasty decision made at the eleventh hour? I was fortunate that I woke up early (yes, I am no night owl) or I might had to face the music and a long string of mumbles by my ever-oh-so-talkative-and-repetitive mom and dad.

I was stunned with sheer astonishment, yet at the same time, felt like I am now in cloud nine. I have not set foot in that Pearl of Orient for more than a decade. Penang! Oh gosh, I am dreadfully yearning to shop there like nobody else  and feast my eyes on the spectacular sea view. To be frank, I found Kuala Lumpur far from being charming and fascinating, thanks to my relatives who took me around Kuala Lumpur just for shopping, and shopping, and SHOPPING! I was bored to the max for that! (KL-lites are going to kill me for this!)

Without much-or even the slightest preparation, we headed to the island previously known as Prince of Wales. Thank goodness my old camera is still functional despite having its battery charged merely an hour before the journey. Hallelujah!

As predicted, there was a severe traffic congestion on the road heading towards Penang Bridge. Being down with boredom, I took some snapshots of the off-the-bridge scenery there.

Just too distant! The railing did nothing but to spoil the otherwise perfect picturesque.

。。。。。A little closer...

CLOSER! (Oh no, not the railing again!)

Upon arrival at Penang, we headed straight to Queensbay Mall for an ultimate shopping spree. There we went for-snacks. (Oops, the name of the shop had slipped off my mind!) It was definitely a heaven for those with a sweet tooth and colour lovers! It was a trivia while making choices as there was a ginormous variety of candies and pickles! Best of all, we were allowed to sample them prior to purchasing them!

The candies from the left were from Famous Amos. Those on the right were from the snack shop which I had mentioned above. Sold at RM1.99 per 100 gram, it was definitely worthwhile buying!

Nutmeg juice concentrate which was not at the least sweet.

What a coincidence! The fashion outlets there were holding a grand sale for three days. That was a golden chance too good to be missed of course! Mom, sister and I bought a T-shirt each (Brand: Seed) which solf for RM79 for three pieces. It is definitely a perfect bargain in terms of price and quality!

Yahoo!
Bingo! This is exactly the garment which I had been hunting for for long! The outer blouse was priced at RM44.10 after discount while the camisole was sold at about RM33.

Queensbay Mall

Queensbay Mall was so large that it was impossible to go around it without food. As we were diehard fans of RICE, we went to an awesome, elegant yet pocket-friendly Chinese restaurant- Xuan Sheng Hong Kong Restaurant! (Ha ha I can't remember the name exactly in English) It was little wonder that the restaurant was almost saturated with hungry patrons, and that we had to make a reservation by the waiter first. Fortunately,  it took just a couple of minutes for us to look for a table.

The restaurant was elegantly decorated with an air of regal splendour.

We waited for the waiter in vain, only to find out that there was a bell provided for the order and bills!

Nevertheless, it did not take long for the arrival of the dishes, after the orders were made. Thanks to the presence of many chefs, each specialised for various dishes, thus the superb efficiency. It was the first time for me witnessing such special service!

我点的绿茶,RM2.50
Green tea for RM2.50

Look! There was the sticker of the name of the chef, carefully placed at the side of the plate. My fried rice with roasted duck and dried scallops was prepared by Master Guang. Its serving is fit for a KING indeed!

Four plates of rice, four cups of beverages and a plate of crispy roasted pork sum up for not more than RM100. Worth the try!

After pigging out, we strolled around the mall.

A lady alive, or a mannequin?!!

It was too difficult to tell the difference! I took a closer look, and it came to light that that was a tactic used by a nearby computer shop to promote notebooks. Female shopkeepers took turns to stand in the glass panel display and hold the notebook. I overheard a Malay couple asking a makle shopkeeper if the "lady" was a mannequin after all.

"Hou Nam Ah!"(Very difficult!) The young, svelte female shopkeeper chuckled in Cantonese as she stepped out of the glass panel display and got questioned by her male colleague. Seriously, I deeply saluted her for being able to stay static as a "mannequin" for hours-in HEELS! I would have fell flat if I was at her place.

Before leaving the mall, my sister went to Famous Amos for some candies.
